Individual Consultations
We assist families by phone, email, or in person.
PIC staff are trained and experienced individuals, often parents of children with special needs themselves, who provide one-to-one support and information to parents, relative caregivers and professionals on the phone, by email, or in person by appointment.
Our staff are neither case managers nor personal advocates. They strive to empower parents to become their child's own best lifelong advocate so that families may:
Better understand their child’s special needs or disability
Learn about appropriate programs and services
Understand their rights and options concerning special education and related services
Prepare for IEP or other school meetings
Find solutions to problems and concerns
Communicate effectively with schoolspaersonnel, service providers and policy makers
Link with other parents for kinship and support
Before you...
Contact us, you may want to first check our Frequently Asked Questions.
Send us an email
Please keep in mind that email is best for general questions. If you have a specific question, or multiple concerns about your child, do provide a telephone number and a time when our staff may call you.
When you contact us, we will ask you to give us information about you and your child, and a brief description of your question or concern. Within 3-5 business days, our staff will contact you, listen to your concerns and offer problem-solving strategies, or refer you to appropriate resources. Staff may also ask you to provide supporting information such as your child’s IEP, recent evaluations, etc. A few weeks later, staff will follow-up with you to ensure that they were of help and that you need no further assistance.
Although our staff attends school meetings with families, we do not have the capacity to honor every request. However, we will always help families prepare for meetings.
We strongly encourage families to take advantage of our many leaning opportunities such as: Workshops, Institutes Webinars, and Audio Conferences
